Avid Masterclasses with Cristo Hattingh, that’s a wrap!
In a series of 12 masterclasses, Cristo Hattingh took us on a journey of his approach to an array of topics ranging from a very basic and introductory level to an advanced level on his Avid S6L.
S6L delivers unrelenting performance and reliability through its advanced engine design and intelligent workflows to handle any live production. Its modularity and unmatched flexibility make it easy to scale a system.
The welcomed involvement of The Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) elevated the masterclasses to new heights by sponsoring prizes in the form of two ProTools 101 courses won by lucky attendees Tshepang Rafout and Thorisho Ralematha.
George Hattingh (Director at ASE) commented:
“It’s been our pleasure to sponsor prizes for this series. It’s important to retain relationships. Especially ours with Wild & Marr which stretches back longer than I am old.
It’s been a great series with generous backing from Wild & Marr and Avid. Your teams have put a lot of resources and time into a series showcasing the rare experience and skillset present in Cristo Hattingh. ASE has been privileged to be able to participate and showcase the quality of knowledge that goes into our programs.”
In some of the sessions, Cristo showcased his workflows and covered his perspective on snapshots and took us through the Avid S6L family of 5 control surfaces starting from the 16C to the 48D. He delved into the new version 7 compression and EQ features as well as the new blend feature.
One of the viewers Thorisho Ralematha had this to say about the masterclasses:
“The masterclasses were awesome and very informative. I’m not from the audio industry so I have very little knowledge but when I heard terms, I’m not familiar with such as ‘parallel compression’, I wrote this down and did my own research afterwards. I’ve learnt a lot coming from the church. Thank you, Cristo.”
Cristo was hosted at The Experience Centre at Wild & Marr where he did a virtual sound check masterclass. Some of the learners that have been on the journey were invited to the experience centre to meet and learn from Cristo.
Cristo Hattingh concluded:
“I really enjoyed being able to share some thoughts and ideas on my approach.
Perspective is a powerful thing and I think that’s what I mentioned throughout the series.
The tips and tricks I’ve mentioned were useful to the audience, but I’ve said in many of my sessions that you need to know your gear… and know it well.
I would like to thank the guys at ASE and Wild & Marr for supporting me in delivering these masterclasses successfully.”
